Laparoscopic Surgeon
Anyone with a belly button piercing have any trouble with Laparoscopic Surgery?
I need to have my gall bladder removed via key hole (laparoscopy)…am waiting to see my surgeon next week.
I have had my naval pierced for the last 8 years and am wondering if this may affect the procedure (I am aware that the ring will need to come out for the operation and am not fussed about letting it close over just concerned that it might then have to be open surgery not laparoscopy.)
Any info would be appreciated.
Also would love to hear from anyone who has had this procedure done as am a little anxious!
I am an OR nurse. You will have to remove the ring before you go into the OR, because some of the equipment they use to prevent bleeding uses electricity, so the metal can attract the current and cause a burn. As long as your doctor know about your piercing they can make the small incisions in such away that it will now destroy the hole and you can replace the ring as soon as you are awake enough to do so.
